As I wrote in a previous blog, Ybor City was, at one time, known as the Cigar Capital of the World. One of the unique aspects of the Cigar Factories was a gentleman known as the “Lector” (Reader in Spanish). The Lector was paid by the workers to read books in the morning and newspapers in the afternoon. He helped, not only inform and help educate the workers on current events, he entertained with his readings of Victor Hugo, Sinclair and other contemporary authors. As soon as I have finished the “polishing touches” and taken better pictures, this Diorama will be available for purchase.
